THE BOOK OF HERITAGE · ACHKA
The origin: Mayahuel
Before a label, a land. Before an explanation, a story. We open this book with a legend of the maguey, told with respect for its cultural context.

A legend, many voices
In the version shared by INPI, Mayahuel and Quetzalcóatl hide in a tree with two branches. The Tzitzimime destroy Mayahuel’s branch; Quetzalcóatl gathers and buries her remains. From them, magueys emerge. This is a traditional narrative with different versions, not a documented historical event.
Maguey and pulque
INPI identifies Mayahuel as a deity of maguey and pulque. Pulque is made by fermenting aguamiel: it is neither tequila nor mezcal. This distinction lets us appreciate the legend without turning it into an explanation of how distilled spirits began. Distillation history requires its own sources and questions.
An invitation to look closer
At ACHKA, this story is a doorway to knowledge, not a claim about a product’s provenance. From here we follow plants, places and the choices of the people who craft each expression. Our AI guide carries her name as a tribute to the story and an invitation to learn about the cultures that keep it alive.
